Evening with Brahms
Date: 17th April 2004 Location: The Esplanade, Singapore Conductor: Gunther Herbig Pianist: Nikolai Demindenko Orchestra: Singapore Symphony Orchestra
The evening began with Mozart's Symphony No. 36 in C major, K 425 followed by Richard Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, Op 103 : so delightful and elegant. A conductor whose works I would be interested to attend again.
Nothing quite helped with the amazement when Nikolai Demindenko did Brahms' 2nd Piano Concerto in B-flat major Op 83. What a capture of attention! His pianistic virtuosity with the orchestra was so well blended that it was full of towering emotions and vitality, none short of finesse and control. A powerful pianist giving so much, being quite exhausted after such performance.
Such an evening to remember!
